Invertebrates
ーCard Game ”BABIES?” ー
Invertebrates
Animals that do not have backbones are called invertebrates.
Invertebrates are categorized into arthropods, [8] Mollusks, and others.
Arthropods can further be categorized into [6] Crustaceans, [7] Insects, and [7] Spiders, Myriapods.
[6] Crustaceans, [7] Insects (+ spiders) and [8] Mollusks will appear in this card game “Babies?”.
[6] Crustaceans
Animals that have segmented bodies/legs are called arthropod animals.
They do not have backbones, but they are characterized with having skeletal structures. One of the arthropods is called crustacean. This is the animal that has rigid shell over its body surface.
Crustaceans that live in seawater lay a huge number of eggs. This is the similarity that crustaceans share with fish.
Here are the 5 types of [6] Crustaceans that will appear in this card game “Babies?”.

[7] Insects (+spiders)
Insects are the ones that we see quite often around us, but they are very difficult to scientifically categorize. It can get you confused if you try to learn its categorization through school textbooks. To scientifically define “insects”, they are the arthropod animals that have their body part divided into head, thorax and abdomen.
* [6] Crustaceans only have their body part divided into 2 parts: cephalothorax and abdomen.
What is interesting is that they have a pair of 3 legs (total 6 legs).Plus, their legs come out of their chest area only!Isn’t it strange to have legs coming out of chest, when you compare them with us humans and other animals!?
Insects do not lay that many eggs. Whether it is a rhino beetle or a butterfly, insects have small bodies, therefore, they cannot retain too many eggs inside the bodies.
Here are the 5 types of [7] Insects (+spiders) that will appear in this card game “Babies?”.

Beware, that scientifically speaking, spiders are not included in insects, but rather they are categorized in the class “Spiders”.Just like crustaceans, spiders also have their bodies divided into 2 parts: cephalothorax and abdomen. They have a pair of 4 legs on sides (total 8 legs).Their legs come out from cephalothorax.
(Examples)
Spider, mite, scorpion, etc.
[8] Mollusks
Out of invertebrates, the ones that have segmented bodies/legs are called arthropod animals. On the other hand, the animals that do not have any segmented body parts, i.e. the ones without skeletal structure, are called mollusks. They are the animals that are soft, limp, and flexible.
* Squid, one of the most famous mollusks, has white, semi-rigid structure inside its body, but it is said to be a cartilage.
Out of all mollusks, there are types of animals that live in seawater that lay a huge number of eggs. For example, scallop and oyster that appear in this card game – they are said to lay 100 million eggs!
